Cramming a Summer into a weekend

Finally, we are enjoying some gorgeous weather so we decided to get hiking and make the most of it - cramming the whole of summer into a weekend. Saturday we hiked the Powder Face circuit. About a moderate 12km hike through gorgeous terrain and great views with about a 250m gain in elevation. Sunday, we cranked it up a notch and hiked the Yamnuska Summit.

Enjoying beautiful Fall colours we clamboured up the trail, and up and up. The views were sensational so we stopped often to enjoy them!

... and yes, we are climbing to the top of that rock. The elevation gain was a mere 930m in the first 4 km. My legs were certainly telling me that this was a good work out! At the top of the rock, the views are spectacular - and the rock face a sheer fall down one side. Poke a nose over the edge and it's 300m straight down. The yellow trees looked like a canola field.

We worked our way along the top of the rock cliff and edged along narrow rock ledges clinging hold of a cable. The only thing scarier than Sean edging along this cliff face is the fact that I did it first!

We clamboured over boulders and up scree slopes. We decided that fact we were skiers was of benefit because we are used to looking down a ridiculously steep slope, leaning against poles. We stopped to peer over the edge whenever we felt brave.
Ron and Richard - think I have changed my mind about rock climbing - that's a 300m sheer drop!

The scree slopes were amazing. A bit like skiing - we wizzed down. All that hard gained elevation disappearing in moments! What a fun hike - Suz and Simon, you'd love it!
