Remember that the initial shock of the water will subside and with a wetsuit and proper headwear your body will be protected. Your face, hands, and feet will not feel good in the colder water conditions and there is often a response from the body after the start of the swim where there is a sense of panic (this is common in all water conditions but cold water makes it feel worse). Please remember that you are also racing at altitude so a shortness of breath could exaggerate this feeling. But if you STAY CALM, and carry on through this - it will subside.
Be prepared with warm clothes for the bike (often hypothermia does not start in the water but on the bike with cooler air temperatures after a cold swim.
Wow - really looking forward to this one!
