Misfortune strikes

It's been a bad year for pets in the Collins' household.

First Sea King's untimely demise, then the unfortunate incident with the amputee Ow! and now it is Snowball's turn. Following a few rather inconvenient peeing-on-bed events coupled by her extreme thirst, we took her off to the vet. $300 in blood tests later, good news - she is diabetes free! The bad news - she has feline chronic renal failure.

So she is now on a low protein diet, medication and a powder to reduce her phosphorous levels - to be administered every 12 hours for the rest of her life - oh joy!

She is very young to have this so it is likely hereditary. It is terminal and she will get only another couple of years. Fear not, we wont be joining a support group or dedicating a blog to the "emotional roller coaster" or even giving up weekends away. But, as she is responding really well to treatment, we have committed to juggle for a while and see how we go. Dad's one shot solution is always an option!
