Nicola's Uncle Rob, who is fluent in the local languages, gave us a lesson on 'the clicks'. In Xhosa, there are three clicks, three also in Zulu but not as frequently used and just the single one in Swazi.
Xhosa C, Q, X clicks
Zulu C, Q, X clicks
Swazi C only!
The X click in Xhosa (pronounced Cosa by those parlaying a clickless language) is made at the back of your mouth and is the most difficult for us non-clickers. The Q click is made at the front of your palate just behind your teeth and the C click is made off your teeth.
Now, can we master a sentence before the end of our trip??
