The Wild Rose is the floral emblem of Alberta. Just as Victoria was once The Garden State, Alberta is Wild Rose Country. Rosa acicularis or prickly rose can grow up to 15 metres tall, is famous for its prickly stems with their beautiful pale pink flowers and nutritious 'rosehips'.
I became intimately acquainted with our province's floral emblem when, yesterday, I parted company with my bike and landed in a tangled heap in one rather mature specimen. Living up to its name and reputation, I managed to tear a very large hole in a brand new pair of shorts.
